Default Complete List Of Tips & Tricks For The AT&T Fuze & HTC Touch Pro [UPDATED 01-26-10]

If you are looking for the most comprehensive list of what you can do to your new Fuze/Touch Pro, you have come to the right thread! The amazing list was put together by our own DavidK. Please drop a reply if you have something to add to this list.

Legend:

[NEW-xx-xx-xx] = New or Updated Information

[$] = Is Third Party Software That Has To Be Paid For

There are three sections listed below: NOOB, Big Fuzer (DavidK's words!), and Pro. So you will have some idea of how hard, or risky each modification is prior to trying it. Thanks again to DavidK for his hard work to help out our community!

NOOB (I just got this – now what can I do with it out of the box?)

Access Contacts from Your Company Directory - Open a new email and tap the ‘To’ button and then way at top tap "<Company Directory>’ well now just whatever letters you know of their name and hit the left soft key that is now search and watch it go. Press the right soft key that is ‘menu’ and go to Save to Contacts so in the future they will have a separate Outlook contact and you won’t have to go through this. You can also do this by going into Contacts then going to the right soft key and hit ‘Company Directory’ and it takes you to the same screen to search for the contact.
Emailing Your Voice - Just go into an email message (a new one or a reply/forward) and go to Menu, Insert, Voice Note and you’ll see a set of recording toggles pop up. Simply hit the red record button to start and then the black square to stop and that’s it. Voice note is attached to your email.
USB Charging Takes Longer? - so just plug it in
There are a series ofEmail Shortcuts - Just press and hold ‘H” on the keyboard and they’ll pop up. These only work using the physical keyboard (and not the onscreen keyboard). This lets you reply all with one button for example.
Fax or Scan? No - Snap and Send - The camera on the Fuze is better than a fax machine so instead of faxing just snap a photo and email it
Save Screen Image in Camera Album - After you have zoomed into a photo just tap on the screen to show the on screen menu, hit the menu button on the lower right corner then hit Save Screen Image and it will save the image under whatever name you type in
Watching Videos Recorded on Your Fuze - Just move the mp4 video to your desktop and then upload it to Media-Convert at this website which is free but ad based so just click away the popups. Input video format should be set to mp4 and output is your option but I’ve been using Windows - AVI and you can either wait for it to convert (which is pretty quick) or you can give them your email address and they’ll send you a link to download the converted video when it is ready (it shouldn’t be more than a minute unless it’s a very large file though). The ‘warning’ popups about multiple formats is normal - just ignore those as well as long as it’s set to mp4 for input and avi for output. If you just want to view it on your own computer without changing the file type just install this and the file will play in Windows Media Player.
Clean Your Fuze’s Menus - You know when you go into Start - Programs and everything is in the worst order? Just go to File Explorer (Start - Programs - Tools) then within that program go to My Device - Windows (give it a second to load) Start Menu - Programs. You’re now looking at a series of shortcuts to the actual programs (these are not the programs themselves, just links to them so if you delete these the program is still on your Fuze). Go to Menu - New Folder and I make a new folder called Crap and I’m going to move the garbage AT&T decided to put on my phone into there (you can delete it as well since they’re just shortcuts though). Just go through your folders and reorganize them. You can rename existing folders as well. Whatever you set up here is exactly what you’ll see when you go to Start - Programs in the future so make it how you like it.
Clean Your Fuze’s Start Menu - This is the guy in the corner that drops down when you hit Start. Go to Start - Settings - Menu and anything that is checked appears in the drop down and anything unchecked is off. It’s that simple.
Use Your Fuze to Read Adobe PDFs - When looking at an Adobe PDF go to Tools - View - Reflow and then just zoom in to our desired zoom level (use the plus/minus in the lower right or the magic wheel/d-pad) and as we zoom in we watch our Fuze reformat the text without a hiccup to fit the screen and before you know it, it’s readable. This trick works for documents that were Word documents or had OCR performed when scanning them (which is pretty often these days). If it’s a picture or something similar I’m sorry but it’s back to landscape mode and panning.

Got Yellow Photos? Fix It! - Once the camera is open hit the button in the lower right (looks like a cog) to bring up the options and just hit the white balance image on the menu (top middle) to toggle them. If the camera options don’t open automatically just hit any direction on the d-pad and you’ll see it pop up.
Make TF3D Contacts Images Sharper - The contacts pic just needs to be added from within TF3D and not
from Outlook
Edit Your T9 Auto Complete Words - It’s pretty easy actually - just go into the Windows directory of your phone using File Explorer (inside Programs – Tools) and find an application called eT9MyWords and run it. You’ll see your T9 dictionary so you can add words, edits words, etc. So you can get rid of “Izll” and add “I’ll” like it is supposed to be.
Using Your Fuze to Record Phone Calls - When you take the call just switch it to speaker phone and then go to programs - tools - voice recorder and let it rip.
Record Your Radio - If you have a wired headset you can just take one earbud and put it next to the mic hole or if you don’t mind playing the music out loud just set the radio to play through the speaker (the headset still needs to be plugged in since it is an antennae) and then go to Programs/tools/voice recorder and start recording.
Watch Recorded TV on Your Fuze - If you have a PC that is capable of recording tv then you can easily set up a sync relationship between your PC and your Fuze so that it syncs your recorded tv with your Fuze. Just go into Windows Media Player and set your recorded tv (left side under ‘library’) to sync with your Fuze’s storage card and you’re done
Internet Explorer Not Connecting? - The simple fix is usually to just disable the proxy. It’s in Programs/Tools/Proxy Manager and just click Disable Proxy and your Internet Explorer will connect.
You Have A Business Card Reader In Your Pocket - One of the greatest pieces of software for the Fuze is actually already on your phone. It’s called WorldCard Mobile and it lets you simply take a photo of a business card and it uses character recognition to convert it to text and then imports it right into your contacts and it’s remarkably accurate. It’s located in Programs/Games & Apps at the bottom
Control your Fuze and Send Texts From your Desktop - Use freeware MyMobiler which is a simple and light piece of freeware that installs on your PC and your Fuze and once installed you can see and control your Fuze from your desktop (think of it as PCAnywhere for your Fuze). And by doing this you get the benefits of a full keyboard and mouse with your Fuze.
Learn The AT&T Fuze & HTC Touch Pro D-Pad Sweet Spot! - The best place (sweet spot) for side to side D-Pad pressing is actually outside of the D-Pad circle and almost betweenthe Back and End Call, or Home and Call button.
Using MiniUSB Cables - You can use any USB to charge or sync your Fuze even if it is not the one that came with the Fuze.
Zooming - Go into an email you received and then put your finger around the outside rim of the d-pad and move it counter-clockwise (with just a drop of pressure but no need to push). It zooms out to make it smaller. Go the other way and it zooms in. This works for zooming in/out on photos, documents, etc. The reason almost no pressure is needed is because the Fuze’s touchpad is a capacitive screen (it’s the same type as the iPhone) so you need to use your finger and not a finger nail to do this but you’ll notice you do not need pressure.

Use Your Fuze As a Flash Drive - If you simply plug connect your Fuze using USB and on the Fuze click “Mass Storage” and the storage card on your Fuze will appear as a drive on your PC. This means anywhere your Fuze goes you have a portable harddrive with the drivers on you. While it is in this mode the Fuze cannot use the storage. If you connect and hit “ActiveSync” as your choice you will be able to see the drives on the screen and the Fuze can use them at the same time but this mode requires ActiveSync or Windows Device Center on the computer.
Reject phone calls with a text message by going to the start menu, settings, phone and go to the advanced tab to set the pre-set text message to send.
Open up Notes while in a phone call by removing the stylus
Reset a Fuze - Insert the stylus into the hole at the bottom of the Fuze. This is called a ‘soft reset’
Set up email - By going to the Email icon – Menu – Accounts – New Account and enter your email information. To configure an Exchange Account go to Start – Programs – Activesync
Flip through messages in email or text messages by swiping your finger up or down on the screen or by pressing up or down on the d-pad
Prolong battery life by tapping on Task Manager which is the little arrow in the top right of the screen and closing applications that you no longer need running
Disable wifi and Bluetooth when not in use by going to the Settings Tab, clicking Communication and then clicking Wifi or Bluetooth as desired.
To switch between email and text accounts - Just swipe your finger left to right or hit left/right on the d-pad

BIG FUZER (I’m willing to toy with apps, but I’m not touching my registry)

Install .Net 3.5 - All of the newer software requires this and Microsoft doesn’t preinstall it so install .Net 3.5 which runs from your PC and installs itself onto your Fuze. Then install and run netcfcfg.cab (look in your program directory and run it.) Once the application loads, navigate to the third tab from the left called Device Policy. there you will see that Default is selected. Tap the drop down box and select NET CF 3.5.7283 and hen tap apply.
Remap PTT to Start Menu - Use Shubaroo.com which is just a file called startmenu.exe that you can move to your Fuze and then follow the instructions in the PTT posting to create a shortcut to it and then map it
Remap PTT to Close - Use ZapIt and install it on your Fuze. Once installed it will be located in Windows/Start Menu so just take File Explorer and go to that directory and cut and paste it to put it into the main Windows directory - just follow the instructions to map it.
Remove the Curtains from TF3D - This is the top and bottom wrapper in TF3D that surrounds the icons. just install this application and you’re set
Snap a Photo of a Barcode and Automatically Compare Prices Online - Go here to XDA and download the file. This is a zip file that contains a folder. Open the zip on your PC in which case you need to move the ENTIRE folder to your Fuze. There is a file called Baracoma.exe within that file you’ll see Barcorama.exe which you can run from your Fuze.
Stream Sirius and XM to your Fuze - You need an XM/Sirius subscription for this. This application works for Sirius. For those of you using XM check out this application
Dial Pad that speaks the numbers - Just install this application onto your Fuze and when you dial a phone call you’ll hear the keys out loud. You need to hold down the key to get the sound and it only last as long as you hold down the key
Replace Your Auto Backlight Application - With Lumoshere, a little program that will replace your existing Auto Backlight application and give you more control over your Auto Backlight and decrease the memory footprint as well as use less battery
Remove Delay in Taking Photos - If you have a delay in taking a photo just change the settings using the Advanced Configuration Tool. Under the camera options, capture delay should be disabled, key delay disabled and capture key delay set to zero.
Add a Soft Reset Option - Simply download the file from here and after installing it I suggest going to Settings - Menus and adding it to your Start drop down menu so it’s handy.
Speed Up Your Touch Pro Keyboard - The solution is a really small cab from XDA is located here.
One Touch-Toggle Bluetooth and Wifi On and Off - Just install the cabs. Here for bluetooth and here for wifi.
Get Vibration feedback when dialing - Link is here. If you want vibration with every screen touch try this out but it’s probably overkill
Diamond Tweak – Enable Scroll Wheel and other tweaks. For those of your that remember the tweaks that Kaiser Tweaks brought well Diamond Tweaks has a lot of the same tweaks. it enables the scroll wheel/d-pad works to scroll in calendar, IE, contacts, call history and in my programs.
Vibra (Switch) is an application that toggles between vibrate and sound on your Fuze
How To Add A City On The AT&T Fuze TF3D Weather Tab - Install WeatherDatabaseEditor 1.2.CAB. Find the Country you want. Tap the edit tab and then tap Add City. Fill in the blanks. You will need to head on over to Accuweather to get the code you need. To add a United States code is just as easy. Simply type in this string and just edit it manually: NAM|US|AK|ANCHORAGE| Copy this code and edit the content with our State Abbreviation and City and you are done.

How To Turn 3G On and Off - Download the freeware Advanced Configuration Tool then go to Menu (right soft key), Comm Manager and check the 3G box. This will require you to disable another button since the TF3D tab only has room 6 six buttons. Go to OK then Done and soft reset. Just go to the Settings Page in TouchFlo3D then to the Communications Page and you’ll see a 3G button was added.
Modify TF3D Tabs - Install Diamond TF3D Config Once you are done you will need to restart your Fuze

Enable the FM Radio Simply install the file located here
View Stocks on the Fuze Install Ticker Tape which is located here (this is not a TF3D tab – just a stand alone app)
Add a fourth column - in the Start – Programs page (not in the TF3D tab) by installing this cab
Enable the accelerometer - to always have the same orientation as the phone in all applications with Gyrator or GSen Lock and unlock your phone by ‘rolling’ it over in your hand check out Sensor Lock
Alarm clock that you can shake - Try Klaxon’s Alarm Clock but if you need more of a challenge to get you going in the morning try G-Alarm which requires using the tilt sensor to get a ball through a maze to turn off the alarm
Turn your Fuze into a fancy air mouse for your computer - (including use of the g-sensor) check out GRemote
Backup your phone to avoid disasters
Change screen resolution - to use non-VGA apps on the Fuze with WVGAFIX3

Carry around a real time currency converter by installing XChange R8
Let your kids draw on your Fuze with PencilBox that installs over ActiveSync

Default BIG FUZER offerings

Hi:

Trying to download net 3.5 to AT&T fuze. Claims installed successfully on computer and device but do not know where. Next step was to install and run netcfcfg.cab. The link is to a zip file which when extracted does nothing. Is this file part of net 3.5 and where do I find it and how do in install and run it?

Thanks
